On Norway, I've seen some detailed articles explaining why it and other Scandinavian countries are far more entrepreneurial than the US, and the answer is health care plus the retirement system. I haven't seen anything about blue collar jobs, but that might result from a tax system that encourages a pretty flat payroll. Like that US company in the news recently, where all of the employees make $50k, one company from Norway that I saw profiled had a CEO who said he just didn't need all that extra pay. Profits went to the employees.
Amen on Ornette Coleman. I was listening to "The Shape of Jazz to Come" and "Free Jazz" (with a young Freddie Hubbard) tonight. The double quartet in stereo in Free Jazz is just amazing to listen to. Thanks for the tip on "Dancing in Your Head".
Interesting comment about Pat Metheny. A friend posted a link to a fairly recent video of Ornette Coleman in concert, and the next stuff in the video playlist is all by Pat Metheny!
